Provincial Provider Registry Specification
The provincial provider registry helps uniquely identify regulated health care professionals and organizations as well as those involved in collecting, using, and / or disclosing personal health information.
Scope
This registry contains authoritative information about regulated health professionals and organizations in Ontario that fall within the definition of health information custodian (HIC) or are operators of a HIC pursuant to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). The registry is fed by regulatory colleges and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s corporate provider database. It is managed by eHealth Ontario.
The registry enhances patient care delivery by:
- Improving the accuracy of provider information including location, contact information, affiliations, and licensing status
- Reducing manual efforts related to maintaining accurate provider information within local health care solutions
Status
Although this specification is currently available to download, it is considered a draft until the provincial review period is complete.
